In one sentence

Once a week, for each available member, we look for a single person with whom compatibility is strong in both directions, while making sure that no one waits indefinitely. Each match is explained by three reasons.

Who can receive a match

To be taken into account, you need: an active account (not paused or suspended), your explicit consent to the use of your gender and the gender sought, a verified identity, a completed questionnaire (at least the mandatory chapters), at least 3 approved photos and no match in progress.

Being a subscriber or not makes no difference to the calculation: the subscription lets you view and organise a match, not be ranked higher.

Layer 1 — Filters

A pair is ruled out if even one of these tests fails, in either direction:

  • each person matches the gender sought by the other;
  • each person's age is within the range accepted by the other;
  • the distance between your areas is less than the smaller of your two travel radii;
  • none of your dealbreakers (5 at most) is breached; a missing answer counts as non-compliant;
  • you have at least two availability slots in common per week;
  • you have never been matched together before, neither of you has blocked the other, and, if you have enabled the option, the other person is not in your contacts;
  • each person's reliability score is at least 50%.

Layer 2 — Declared compatibility

For each question, we check whether the other person's answer is among those you accept, taking into account the importance you give it (not important, a little, important, very important: weights 0, 1, 10 and 50). This gives your satisfaction with the other person, then theirs with you. We take their geometric mean: the score is high only if you are both satisfied.

This score counts for half. The other half comes from five markers drawn from research on relationship satisfaction:

Marker What we look at Weight
Values and life plans How close your priorities and plans are (children, where to live, the place of work…) 35%
Personality Closeness in agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness; emotional stability; a tolerated difference in extraversion 20%
Attachment Pairs who reassure each other are favoured; the often unstable "need for reassurance" and "need for distance" pairing is penalised 15%
Lifestyle Pace of life, habits, going out 15%
Interests Shared passions (they are also used to choose the theme of the date) 15%

Layer 3 — Learning from real dates

After each date, your feedback teaches us what really makes people want to see each other again. A statistical model estimates the probability of a "mutual yes" from the same markers (compatibility scores, age gap, distance).

As long as we do not have enough dates, this model does not count at all. It only starts to carry weight from 200 dates with feedback, and then gradually, never exceeding half of the final score (reached at around 2,000 dates).

This model does not analyse your photos. [TO BE CONFIRMED: if photo analysis is considered later (specifications §6), it will require an update of the DPIA, of this page and, where applicable, a consent.]

Layer 4 — Pairing across the whole city

Since each person has only one match at a time, we do not show you "your best profiles": we look, for the whole city at once, for the set of pairs that maximises overall compatibility. This prevents attention from being concentrated on a few profiles.

  • Quality threshold: no pair below a minimum score (currently 68%). Better no match than a bad match.
  • Fairness: a small bonus is given for waiting time, so that no one waits indefinitely.
  • Priority: after a date missed by the other person or a cancellation that did not come from you, you are given priority.
  • Exploration: around 10% of pairs receive a very slight random variation, so as not to lock the algorithm into its certainties.

Layer 5 — Explanation

Each match displays a score and three concrete reasons, chosen from your strongest points in common and from different areas. For example: "You both want children in the next few years".

What we never use

  • No ethnic criteria: we do not collect this information and no filter of this kind exists.
  • Your sensitive answers (spirituality or religion) are never shown and never appear in the reasons for a match. They count in the calculation only if you have chosen so, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • The reason for a refusal: it is used to improve the algorithm but is never passed on to the other person.
  • Your subscription status.

Your rights regarding the algorithm

Matching is automated processing necessary for the service you have chosen. You remain in control:

  • you accept or decline each match;
  • you can change your answers, your criteria and your preferences;
  • you can request human intervention: a member of the team reviews your situation (for example a long wait or a match that seems inconsistent to you), gathers your point of view and replies to you. Go to Me › My data › Request human intervention.

We test each new version of the algorithm on part of the city before rolling it out, and we check that it does not disadvantage any group. [TO BE CONFIRMED: method and frequency of bias audits.]
